40th Anniversary Message

  • President's Message

The Catholic Women's League of St. Pius X Parish in St John's, NL celebrated it's 40th year of service to God and Canada on the 11th June, 2014 with a Banquet in the Parish Hall. Approximately 95 people were in attendance.

Peggy Roche, National Education and Health Chairperson brought greetings from National CWL and Fr. Wayne Bolton S.j., our Spiritual Director presented words of support.

During the celebrations tributes were paid to the many Charter members who continue to play an active role in the council. Forty year pins were presented to the founding members: Esther Costello, Aim Aylward, Patricia Kennedy, and Josephine Goss. Forty year pins were also awarded to Madonna McCarthy and Beth Boulos Ryan; twenty-five and ten year pins were presented to members in recognition of years of service. The Maple Leaf pin was presented to Beth Boulos Ryan for her out standing service to the league over many years.

An updated history of the league , in St. Pius X parish, was presented to the attendees. The story of spiritual development, individually and collectively of members and their engagement with the many evolving ecological, spiritual and social justice issues that affect the lives of people in our parish is very enlightening.

Rita Janes, Provincial President, NL was our Guest speaker and Chairperson for the evening and she inspired us with her reflections and encouraging words of hope for the future as we emulate those who went before as they adapted to change and challenges in our society.

Many people contributed to the success of the evening and I wish to thank the members of the  executive, 40th Anniversary Committee and it's chair, Ruby Sharpe for the many hours of work and thought that went into making our evening a great celebration.

We all look forward to the other events that are planned for the remainder of the year. Thanks to all for happy memories.

    Anne Curtis, President
    St.  Pius X
