  • St. Pius X Parish 50th Anniversary 1962 – 2012
For the Greater Glory of God: The Past, The Present, The Future
On Sunday, September 16th,  St. Pius X Parish will come together at  11 am Mass  to celebrate and give thanks on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of our faith community.  Archbishop Martin Currie and the Father Peter Bisson, SJ, Jesuit Provincial,   will concelebrate the Mass, along  with our present  pastors.  Invitations  have been extended to Jesuits who have served the Parish over the past 50 years to join us for this special occasion.
St.  Pius X Parish, that had its origin in a school /chapel complex, was  made a mission  chapel of the Basilica   January 15th, 1956.   However, it was at the 10:30 am Mass, September 2nd, 1962, that St.   Pius X Parish was canonically established as a Parish with the Jesuits extending their apostolate as Pastors. The first  Pastor appointed was Fr. Fred  Lynch, S.J.  with Fr. Vincent Murphy, S.J. as Assistant Pastor.
During the Golden Jubilee year, the 50th Anniversary Committee has planned various events and liturgies in keeping with our theme, “For the Greater Glory of God: The Past, The Present, The Future”. We will honour our parishioners who did so much to lay the foundation for the Parish, and as we remember the past, we also celebrate our present parishioners and prepare ourselves to enthusiastically embrace the future.
Our parish schools were much a part of the St Pius X Parish and a special liturgy and open house is planned to recognize the contribution of staff and students.  Our founding families will be honored at all events, and especially when Family Day is celebrated in the Parish in October. Deceased parishioners will be remembered at the In Memoriam Service in November.  Children who made their First Communion in June 1963 will be invited to join the First Communion Class of June 2013 and plans are underway to celebrate the 50th Wedding Anniversary of couples in the Parish or those who were married in the parish during 1962 - 63. Special events are being organized for our young people. The year long celebrations will conclude with a garden party during the summer of 2013 and a Eucharistic Liturgy of Thanksgiving to commemorate the closing of the 50th Anniversary year, September, 2013.
